To ensure that students have acquired sufficient and relevant knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology to enable them to work with the public effectively and safely, and remaining within the scope of professional practice.

Learning Outcomes
1. Introduction to the Human Body
Students will understand the structural organization of the human body, the basic functions of its systems, and how they interconnect to maintain homeostasis.
2. Body Tissues
Students will be able to identify and classify the four main types of body tissues (epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous), their functions, and their roles in maintaining body integrity and function.
3. The Integumentary System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will learn the structure and function of the skin, hair, and nails, including common diseases and disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer, and their treatments.
4. The Skeletal System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will gain knowledge of the bones, joints, and cartilage that comprise the skeletal system, their role in body movement and protection, and conditions like osteoporosis, arthritis, and fractures.
5. The Muscular System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will understand the types of muscles, their physiology, and common muscular diseases and disorders such as muscular dystrophy, sprains, and strains.
6. The Nervous System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will learn about the central and peripheral nervous systems, their role in coordinating body functions, and neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis.
7. The Endocrine System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will understand how hormones regulate various bodily functions, and will explore disorders like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency.
8. The Cardiovascular System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will study the heart, blood vessels, and blood, focusing on their role in circulation, along with diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart failure.
9. The Lymphatic System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will learn about the lymphatic system's role in fluid balance and immune defense, including disorders like lymphedema and lymphoma.
10. The Immune System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will understand how the immune system protects the body against pathogens and learn about immune-related conditions such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, and immunodeficiency disorders.
11. The Respiratory System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will explore the anatomy and function of the respiratory system and conditions like asthma, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
12. The Digestive System, Nutrition, Diseases and Disorders
Students will study the digestive tract, nutrient absorption, and conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, and malnutrition.
13. The Urinary System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will understand how the kidneys, bladder, and associated organs manage waste, along with diseases like urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and chronic kidney disease.
14. The Reproductive System, Diseases and Disorders
Students will gain knowledge of the male and female reproductive systems, their functions, and disorders such as infertility, endometriosis, and sexually transmitted infections.
15. Pathology
Students will develop a foundational understanding of pathology, focusing on the nature of diseases, their causes, progression, and effects on the body systems.
*Guided Learning Hours (GLH): include an estimate of the time allocated to contact hours with the tutor, this could be in the classroom, via zoom or other means of structured learning time i.e., directed assignments, assessments or other means of supportive individual study and practice. For each contact teaching hour, 1 to 3 hours are added for self-study hours.
*Self-Study Hours (SSH): includes the hours a learner independently studies which include revision, portfolio, research, web search, reflective practice, projects, case studies etc.
