Understanding the historical significance of plants and how the practice of aromatherapy has evolved over time.

 

2. Research and Aromatherapy

Exploring scientific research and evidence supporting the efficacy of aromatherapy.

 

3. The Sense of Smell and Aromatherapy

Studying how the olfactory system works and its connection to the therapeutic effects of essential oils.

 

4. Botany of Aromatherapy

Learning about plant species, anatomy, and classification relevant to essential oil production.

 

5. Chemistry for Aromatherapy

Understanding the chemical components of essential oils and how they contribute to their therapeutic effects.

 

6. Cultivation and Production

Examining methods of cultivating and producing essential oils, focusing on sustainable practices.

7. Adulteration, Quality Control, and Storage

Identifying adulteration in essential oils, ensuring quality control, and learning proper storage techniques.

8. Potential Hazards and Toxicity of Essential Oils

Recognizing risks, toxicities, and precautions for the safe use of essential oils.

9. Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, and Therapeutic Properties

Understanding how essential oils are absorbed, metabolized, and exert their therapeutic effects in the body.

10. Fixed Oils and Other Carriers

Learning about carrier oils and other mediums used to dilute essential oils.

 

11. Essential Oils

A detailed study of individual essential oils, their properties, uses, and applications.

12. Therapeutic Blending, Dosage, and Methods of Application

Understanding how to create effective essential oil blends, determining appropriate dosages, and learning application methods.

13. Benefits and Contraindications of Aromatherapy

Examining the health benefits of aromatherapy and contraindications for its use in specific populations.

14. Safety for Aromatherapy Practice

Emphasizing safety protocols and ethical practices in aromatherapy treatments.

15. Presentation and Preparation

Developing skills for preparing, presenting, and communicating aromatherapy treatments.

16. The Aromatherapy Treatment: Practical application of aromatherapy in client treatment, covering consultation, treatment planning, and aftercare.

*Guided Learning Hours (GLH): include an estimate of the time allocated to contact hours with the tutor, this could be in the classroom, via zoom or other means of structured learning time i.e., directed assignments, assessments or other means of supportive individual study and practice. For each contact teaching hour, 1 to 3 hours are added for self-study hours. 

 

*Self-Study Hours (SSH): includes the hours a learner independently studies which include revision, portfolio, research, web search, reflective practice, projects, case studies etc.
